I first ran across Derek Robinson in Black Designers United, a private Facebook group for Black and minority designers. Derek’s located here in Atlanta, and I got the chance to talk with about how he got started in the industry and about his company, Heavybrea Multimedia. Derek also gives some great advice for aspiring front-end engineers out there. Take it away, Derek!
I’m so pleased to bring this interview to you from London-based graphic designer Brian Hollingsworth. Brian is our first interview from Europe, and while it took quite a while to nail down this busy Brit, I’m glad were able to talk about his work, the design scene in London, and about what makes English design so unique. Cheers!
It’s Black History Month! We’re starting off the month with an interview by Charles Warner, a web designer living in New York City. (If Charles’ name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s business partners with another designer we’ve interviewed — Alrick Collins, Jr.!) It’s always good seeing other designers work together and collaborate. We talked about his inspirations, as well as about how being a devout Christian influences how he approaches his work. Enjoy!
We’ve teamed up with Inspiring Black Designers to spotlight even more brilliant creative talent in the design community. This week, IBD spoke with web designer and entrepreneur Krystle Rowry.
The last interview of 2013 is a really great one.
When you think of someone who has been out there fighting in the trenches for diversity in this industry, think of Andrew Bass. His work with AIGA was a huge inspiration behind showcasing designers here with Revision Path, and I’m honored to have had the chance to speak at length with him about his work and experiences in the design industry. I won’t spoil anything for you because there’s a lot of great information here from the perspective of a design veteran.
How fitting that today’s interview is on the fifth day of Kwanzaa, which represents purpose (nia). Without further ado, here’s Andrew!
